The Board of Directors of the M.F.K. Fisher Foundation has identified the following priorities for our upcoming year. Through these initiatives, and annual events like M.F.K. Fisher Month, the Foundation looks forward to advancing our mission and to encouraging, nurturing, and supporting future generations by ensuring that Fisher’s work, her words, and her spirit live on.
- The M.F.K. Fisher Oral History Project: This ambitious project will capture firsthand memories and perspectives from those who knew M.F.K. Fisher or were influenced by her work. By preserving and sharing these voices, the Foundation will create a rich, lasting record of Fisher’s life, influence, and legacy—one that brings her story to life for generations to come.
- The M.F.K. Fisher Emerging Writers Contest: Entering its eighth exciting year in 2027, the contest’s goal is to foster and celebrate emerging writers of all ages and to help encourage thoughtful storytelling that reflects the spirit and curiosity found in M.F.K. Fisher's writing. The contest has already touched the lives of nearly five hundred writers from around the world, inspiring their imagination and helping bring attention to their work.
- Continuing Education: M.F.K. Fisher’s writing invites us to think more deeply about food, culture, connection, and the art of living well. The Foundation will develop educational materials for schools, libraries, community centers, and other venues that bring her life, her work, and her message to new audiences. These resources will encourage discovery, spark conversation, and continue the important conversations framed by her work.
- Expanding Access: Great writing endures when new readers have the opportunity to discover it. Through partnerships with schools and libraries, the Foundation will make M.F.K. Fisher’s books available to new generations of readers. By expanding access to her work, we will help ensure that Fisher’s voice—and her insights into food, culture, and the human experience—continue to be read, shared, and celebrated.
