In 2026, the M.F.K. Fisher Foundation was proud to launch the inaugural M.F.K. Fisher Month, a celebration honoring her life and legacy. Communities across the country were invited to come together around the tables of participating restaurants, to share the company of others and the spirit of Fisher’s enduring work.
M.F.K. Fisher Month began on June 3, with an intimate sold out picnic lunch at Fisher’s Last House in Glen Ellen, California, after which the celebration continued with restaurant events in California's wine country, San Francisco, Sacramento, Seattle, and Chicago. Restaurant partners included mfk. (Chicago), How to Cook a Wolf Madison Park and How to Cook a Wolf Queen Anne (both in Seattle), Foreign Cinema (San Francisco), Songbird Parlour (Glen Ellen), and Milestone (El Dorado Hills, CA).
The M.F.K. Fisher Foundation invited visitors to the Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau to view a special collection of items from Fisher’s Glen Ellen home, including books, photographs, posters, and other artifacts that illuminate her life and work. This month-long exhibit was offered free of charge and was located in the historic Toscano Hotel on the Sonoma Plaza.
For those unable to attend one of the in-person events, the Foundation shared select recipes from Fisher’s books, inviting readers everywhere to gather, set their own table, prepare a meal, and join in the celebration from home.
M.F.K. Fisher Month concluded on July 3, what would have been Fisher’s 118th birthday,
with the announcement of the winners of the seventh annual M.F.K. Fisher Emerging
Writers Contest on the Foundation’s website, newsletter and social media.
REFLECTION
M.F.K. Fisher showed us that food is never merely nourishment. The way we gather around
the table—and what we share there—reflects something deeper about who we are.
The M.F.K. Fisher Foundation was created to encourage and expand those
conversations about what happens around the table.
M.F.K. Fisher Month is an annual invitation to expand the table itself and welcome more
voices into the conversation.
