On June 3, 2026, The M.F.K. Fisher Foundation will mark the launch of the inaugural M.F.K. Fisher Month with a picnic luncheon at her Last House, located on All Hands Ecology's beautiful Bouverie Preserve in Glen Ellen, California. The luncheon will be an intimate, invitation-only gathering and attendance will be limited. This is a rare opportunity to visit Last House, talk with family and Foundation board members, and enjoy a meal much as she might have served to her guests in the space that meant so much to her.
We expect that this intimate gathering may sell-out quickly. Those who are interested are encouraged to register early.
From June 3-July 3, 2026, the M.F.K. Fisher Foundation is proud to launch the inaugural M.F.K. Fisher Month, a celebration honoring her life and legacy. In celebration of M.F.K. Fisher Month, June 3 to July 3, 2026, the M.F.K. Fisher Foundation invites visitors to the Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau to explore the life and legacy of M.F.K. Fisher, one of America’s most influential literary and culinary voices. The Foundation will present a special collection of items from Fisher’s Glen Ellen home, including books, photographs, posters, and other artifacts that illuminate her life and work. Together, these objects hint at an understanding of Fisher’s enduring contributions to literature, food writing, and the cultural identity of the Sonoma Valley, where she spent much of her life. This exhibit is free of charge and located at the historic Toscano Hotel on the Sonoma Plaza.

The M.F.K. Fisher Foundation is pleased to announce the call for entries for the seventh annual M.F.K. Fisher Emerging Writers Contest. The Foundation has assumed stewardship of the annual competition, initially established by All Hands Ecology (formerly Audubon Canyon Ranch), home to Fisher’s “Last House” on the Bouverie Preserve in Glen Ellen, California. Writers are invited to submit an original unpublished essay or short story (no poetry please) expressing their own unique viewpoint on this very real element of our lives: Fire.
From the glow of candlelight, the warmth of the kitchen stove, the rage of romantic passions, and the devastation and renewal of flames in the wild, fire is elemental to our existence. What fire means to us, in practical and metaphorical terms, inspires this year's challenge.

"The legacy of Mary Frances Kennedy Fisher, known as M.F.K. Fisher, her name pared down like her very lapidary style of exquisite food writing, has been given new permanence beyond the printed page. On Nov. 1 the M.F.K. Fisher Foundation, created by members of her family and some close associates, made its formal debut, announced at her “Last House” in Glen Ellen, Calif., a historic site. She died in 1992. The new organization will oversee “programs, publications, partnerships, and gatherings.” It will run the M.F.K. Fisher Emerging Writer’s Contest, which was established six years ago."
